In late winter, river rocks that were covered by the snow pack start to show here and there as the melt begins to happen along the river edge. Bristol, Vermont -- March 2021
On this bitterly cold day in January, the New Haven River was almost completely frozen over with a shim of water flowing on top, giving it a marvelous green glow. It's an unusual phenomenon that I've only ever seen once before. The eerie color is either algae or dissolved minerals that are revealed when the river has an ice layer on the bottom with a shallow layer of water running on top. (January 2017)
