A Fine Autumn Morning in Lincoln, Vermont

October 2016 -The village of Lincoln is picturesque as it nestles into the hills of the Green Mountains near Mt. Abe on a lovely October morning.

  • Orange Trees

    Orange Trees

At the end of a dreary autumn day with heavy, brooding clouds, the sky in the west cleared just in time to cast a sunset glow on this autumn landscape in the Champlain Valley, revealing brilliant foliage colors in the late day light. Bristol, Vermont

Snow Geese Migration at Dead Creek - Addison, Vermont

November 2016 - I can't think of many things more thrilling than seeing thousands of migratory snow geese settling in for the night at the Dead Creek Wildlife Area. I am filled with awe and wonder when I witness this great spectacle of nature.

  • Heart of Autumn

    Heart of Autumn

One of my favorite walks in the fall is at the Spirit-in-Nature trail in Ripton, Vermont. The intertwined paths lend themselves to quiet contemplation and open my heart to the beauty of nature. It feels like a sanctuary for the soul. I walk through the woods, circle the ponds, cross small bridges over the streams, and explore the shoreline of the South Branch of the Middlebury River. In the fall, the brilliant colors of the autumn leaves are reflected in the water, giving another magical dimension to autumn splendor. In this image, I paused to marvel at the colors in the stream which seemed to dance among the rocks, fallen leaves and fir needles. When I saw a rock peeking out the water that looked just a heart, I felt like I had encountered magic! Ripton, Vermont

  • Autumn Dream in Yellow

    Autumn Dream in Yellow

This dreamy autumn scene was created by using the technique of Intentional Camera Movement. In this case, I hand-held my camera while taking a long-exposure. I love the soft, expressive feeling in this. Bristol, Vermont

  • Snow Geese Rising into a Rosy Dawn

Snow Geese Rising into a Rosy Dawn

Clouds of migrating snow geese stop in the fields around Dead Creek in Vermont on their migration south. At 5 a.m. on a November morning, I came to see the snow geese rise to greet the dawn. When I got there, it was still dark and although I couldn't see the geese, I could hear their calls. As dawn broke, the entire flock took to the air. It was thrilling to hear and see! Dead Creek - Addison, Vermont

  • Pond Leaves Reflection in Autumn

    Pond Leaves Reflection in Autumn

This was a particularly spectacular October day for a walk in the woods. I went to one of my favorite places: The Spirit-in-Nature Sanctuary on Goshen Road near Ripton. I walked on a carpet of leaves and breathed deeply that distinctly spicy autumn fragrance in the air. One part of the trail passed by a pond which had overflowed a bit near a beaver dam. The largest dragonflies I've ever seen were skimming the shallow water which was full of leaves and fall reflections. It was truly soul-filling! Ripton, Vermont

  • October Colors at Bristol Pond

    October Colors at Bristol Pond

The wetlands around Bristol Pond were full of autumn's warm colors and textures on this fine October day. I used a technique called Intentional Camera Movement along with a long-exposure for this image to create a soft, somewhat abstract feel to the image. Bristol, Vermont

  • Autumn Dream in Red

    Autumn Dream in Red

One of my favorite places to see Vermont’s colorful fall foliage is in Lincoln, Vermont where I found this beautiful maple tree which took my breath away with its glowing red leaves. In this abstract shot, l played with the technique of Intentional Camera Movement (ICM). I like how the hand-held long-exposure softened the landscape and intensified the color. Lincoln, Vermont

  • Bridge of Dreams

    Bridge of Dreams

I spotted this inviting footbridge while I was out doing a little autumn leaf-peeping. I would have loved to have seen where it led to, but that will remain a mystery for my imagination. Pomfret, Vermont

  • Dreamy October Road

    Dreamy October Road

This image is an example of an abstract technique called ICM (Intentional Camera Movement). While out on the backroads of Lincoln and Bristol in October, I used a hand-held long-exposure of 1.3 seconds made possible with a graduated neutral density filter. No edits...I love how the exposure pulled out the beautiful autumn colors and created a dreamy effect. Lincoln, Vermont - October 2019

Autumn Reflection in a Stream, Spirit in Nature Trails, Ripton, Vermont

Ripton, Vermont There is nothing I love more in the fall than a walk in the woods, and the Spirit-in-Nature Trail in Ripton is one of my favorite places to go. The 80-acre sanctuary has nine interconnecting paths, each representing a particular faith group, and inspiring quotations are posted on the trees. I love to trample through leaves and marvel at the colors along the gentle trails that meander through the woods. This reflection was taken along the bank of the South Branch of the Middlebury River.

    Belgian Horse in Autumn

October 2018 - Bristol, Vermont I often take the backroad home from Lincoln because I like seeing Deerleap Mountain from the other side. As I came in sight of the mountain, there were five beautiful Belgian horses prancing in a meadow with the foliage-covered hills lit up around them. I got out of the car to get a closer look and this one came running over to see me. Isn't he gorgeous?
