Bleeding Hearts
I love when these lovely flowers bloom in my shade garden in late spring. How can you not love them? Bristol, Vermont -- June 2020
Star Magnolia on a Blue Sky Day
Bristol, Vermont - April 2016. The blooms of the Star Magnolia don't last long, but when this shrub is flowering in spring, it lights up my garden!
Red Trillium
Watershed Center, Bristol, Vermont - May 2018. The common name for Red Trillium is Wake Robin as it was thought to be like the robin with its red breast heralding spring. It is native to Vermont and is a spring ephemeral, a wildflower that blooms in deciduous forests before the leaves emerge. It is also called “stinking Benjamin”! It does not have a pleasant smell...but I don’t know about the Benjamin part!
Three Ladyslippers in Spring
Bristol Ledges - May 2018. One ladyslipper is gorgeous...three are spectacular! Seeing them in the woods is like finding treasure! It has become a rite of spring for me to count them here and it was thrilling to see so many clustered along the rocky ledge here.
Pink Ladyslipper
Bristol Ledges, Bristol, Vermont - May 2018. There is a special spot on the ledges above the village of Bristol where pink ladyslippers bloom in May. Each year I count them and have seen anywhere from 18 - 60!
Sue's Lupines
Lincoln, Vermont - June 2015. A friend has transformed her meadow into a magnificent lupine garden! It is so inspiring!
Queen Anne's Lace
Big Yellow Sunflower
Sunflowers are surely one of the stand-outs of a summer garden. I plant mine among the ferns of my asparagus plants where they stand tall and colorful. The birds and squirrels appreciate them too! Bristol, Vermont
Standing Tall
I adore sunflowers with their bright exuberance! This one was literally head-and-shoulders above the others around it. Bristol, Vermont

Surreal Sunflowers
I grow a lot of sunflowers in my garden. In this image, I used a zoom burst technique to give them a surreal look. August 2018 - Bristol, Vermont
Red Poppy after the Rain
Bristol, Vermont - June 2017. Brilliant red poppies are a star in my garden and look especially lovely adorned in raindrops.
Summer Daisies
Black-Eyed Susan (Macro)
Swallowtail & Iris
Bristol, Vermont - June 2017. I shot this on the first day of summer! My garden was lush with recent rain, the peonies and lavender were blooming and the day-lilies had buds. It's a pleasure to see butterflies traipsing among the flowers. This Eastern Tiger Swallowtail looked especially lovely on the Siberian Iris.
Bearded Iris
Bristol, Vermont - June 2017. What a delight when the bearded iris begin blooming! They are so dramatic and have such a sweet fragrance!
Pulsatilla with Tiny Red Spider after the Rain
Bristol, Vermont - May 2017. I love the fuzzy leaves and stems and the luminous color of Pulsatilla (Pasque Flower). Pasque Flower is the State Flower of South Dakota where I grew up and is native to the tall-grass prairie there. Of course I would have one in my garden! That tiny red spider was a nice surprise in the shot!
Lisianthus & Drops
Bristol, Vermont. I love visiting my garden after a rain to see all the pretty raindrops decorating the flowers.
Snowdrop & Drops
Orange Tulip
Bristol, Vermont - May 2014. Sometimes a special flower deserves a portrait.
White Trillium
Bristol, Vermont - May 2014
Through the Fence
Middlebury, Vermont - July 2015. I am always so tickled by flowers that escape their confines and proclaim themselves!
