Flowers

I love growing flowers in my garden in Vermont and many of these photos are from my backyard. Enjoy! If you would like to order prints, please email me on the Contact page. Print sizes can vary from 8x10 up to 16x20. Some images work well as panoramas. My favorite photo paper is lustre although glossy and matte are also options as are archival art papers.

  • Red Trillium

    Red Trillium

Watershed Center, Bristol, Vermont - May 2018. The common name for Red Trillium is Wake Robin as it was thought to be like the robin with its red breast heralding spring. It is native to Vermont and is a spring ephemeral, a wildflower that blooms in deciduous forests before the leaves emerge. It is also called “stinking Benjamin”! It does not have a pleasant smell...but I don’t know about the Benjamin part!

  • Three Ladyslippers in Spring

    Three Ladyslippers in Spring

Bristol Ledges - May 2018. One ladyslipper is gorgeous...three are spectacular! Seeing them in the woods is like finding treasure! It has become a rite of spring for me to count them here and it was thrilling to see so many clustered along the rocky ledge here.

  • Pink Ladyslipper

    Pink Ladyslipper

Bristol Ledges, Bristol, Vermont - May 2018. There is a special spot on the ledges above the village of Bristol where pink ladyslippers bloom in May. Each year I count them and have seen anywhere from 18 - 60!

    Swallowtail & Iris

Bristol, Vermont - June 2017. I shot this on the first day of summer! My garden was lush with recent rain, the peonies and lavender were blooming and the day-lilies had buds. It's a pleasure to see butterflies traipsing among the flowers. This Eastern Tiger Swallowtail looked especially lovely on the Siberian Iris.

Pulsatilla with Tiny Red Spider after the Rain

Bristol, Vermont - May 2017. I love the fuzzy leaves and stems and the luminous color of Pulsatilla (Pasque Flower). Pasque Flower is the State Flower of South Dakota where I grew up and is native to the tall-grass prairie there. Of course I would have one in my garden! That tiny red spider was a nice surprise in the shot!
