Golden Hour Light on Mt. Abe

Snow-covered Mt. Abe in Lincoln is quite spectacular, especially when it is lit by the last, golden light of the day. This view was looking east along the New Haven River.

Solstice Dusk - Lincoln, Vermont

Solstice is a special time of the year in the North Country. I believe it is important to pause to take in the shortest day of the year and to mark the change in seasons. In this case, I was on a backroad in Lincoln with a remarkable view of the last light of day on Mt. Abe.

Clouds & Mountains Dreamscape

Bristol, Vermont - February 2018. The clouds were stunning over the mountains as they caught the last light of day. There was a simplicity to the landscape with the snow and muted tones that made me feel like I was in a beautiful dream.

Cooper's Hawk in Snow

On a snowy day in February, I stepped out on my porch with my camera for a few images of snow falling in the trees. I literally gasped when I saw this Cooper's Hawk about 20 feet away in the tree next to our bird feeders. I think he was looking for a snack...and it wasn’t seeds. I was wondering why the birds had all disappeared! He is a gorgeous bird and a ferocious predator. 2021 February -- Bristol, Vermont

Rock Bluff at Saxton Point

I love the layered rock on this exposed bluff capped by cedar trees at Shelburne Farms. The beach here at Saxton Point is full of flat black & white striped rocks and smooth driftwood. I've even seen a spiral fossil on the breakwater. It's a picturesque spot looking out on Lake Champlain. Shelburne Farms, Vermont -- 2021 February

Dawn over Camels Hump

Early on a crisp October morning, I went up the mountain to Huntington to catch the sunrise. This colorful sky over Camels Hump made a fine start to the day.

Dawn Of A New Day

The rosy fingers of dawn are aptly named as they spread across the sky with soft color to start the day. I loved how they colored the line of ground fog too. November 2020 - Addison, Vermont

Soft Summer Sunset

As a fine summer day ended, I looked across Lake Champlain at mountains-upon-mountains with a hazy, sherbet-colored sky and golden glowing water.

Milky Way & Barn at 2:00 a.m. on the Solstice in Lincoln, Vermont

June 2018 - The night sky had been splendid lately and I vowed to get up and try to capture it on the Solstice. Nights had been chilly lately and it was only 41 degrees this night and hard to get out of my warm bed, but I bundled up and headed to Lincoln to my favorite barn up on the hill. It was breathtakingly beautiful! The only sound was an owl hooting in the distance. It is humbling to gaze at the galaxy and ponder the immensity of it.

Yellow & White

Gilmore House at the Rikert Nordic Center in Ripton is a cheerful sight after swooping along the curves of the ski trail in deep, fresh snow. It is one of the many yellow buildings that are part of the Breadloaf Campus of Middlebury College.

Snow Geese Rising into a Rosy Dawn

Clouds of migrating snow geese stop in the fields around Dead Creek in Vermont on their migration south. At 5 a.m. on a November morning, I came to see the snow geese rise to greet the dawn. When I got there, it was still dark and although I couldn't see the geese, I could hear their calls. As dawn broke, the entire flock took to the air. It was thrilling to hear and see!
