Watershed Center, Bristol, Vermont - May 2018. The common name for Red Trillium is Wake Robin as it was thought to be like the robin with its red breast heralding spring. It is native to Vermont and is a spring ephemeral, a wildflower that blooms in deciduous forests before the leaves emerge. It is also called “stinking Benjamin”! It does not have a pleasant smell...but I don’t know about the Benjamin part!
Bristol, Vermont - April 2016. The blooms of the Star Magnolia don't last long, but when this shrub is flowering in spring, it lights up my garden!
Bristol Ledges - May 2018. One ladyslipper is gorgeous...three are spectacular! Seeing them in the woods is like finding treasure! It has become a rite of spring for me to count them here and it was thrilling to see so many clustered along the rocky ledge here.
