Callanish Standing Stones
Isle of Lewis, Outer Hebrides, Scotland
The Callanish Stone Circle on a remote island in the outer Hebrides of Scotland are awe-inspiring. Walking among these ancient Standing Stones. one feels their enduring presence. It's a powerful spiritual experience in which you can’t help but feel a deep connection with the earth and how ephemeral our personal existence is. The site is an extraordinary cross-shaped setting of stones erected 5,000 years ago. They include a central stone circle and were a focus for ritual activity during the Bronze Age for at least 2,000 years. Interestingly enough, they predate England's well-known Stonehenge monument and yet are much less known are a definitely not spoiled by excessive tourism.
